In addition to the EDGE Varian radiation surgery method previously presented on the Polymedex.org website, the clinic in Georgia has installed an advanced TrueBeam Varian radiation therapy system.
Radiation therapy is used mainly after surgical removal of the tumor and / or chemotherapy within a period not exceeding 1.5 months after surgery or the end of the course.
The Varian TrueBeam System is the latest generation of two linear accelerators that provide the highest prognosis for radiation therapy. TrueBeam Varian is a very sophisticated technique that requires a work schedule, so the clinic has two linear accelerators that are interchangeable for the continuity of the treatment process.
If EDGE Varian is a system for radiation surgery, which is a rarity in clinics, especially in the post-Soviet space, then linear accelerators have already partially replaced cobalt emitters and are in many clinics in Ukraine.
The table below shows the classification of linear accelerators that are currently used in the world and in Ukraine.
| Equipment | Popular models* | Year of issue | Advantages / Disadvantages of linear accelerators ** |
| Linear accelerators of previous generations | Clinac iX Varian Trilogy STX Varian, Novalis Varian, Elekta Synergy\S, Oncor impression Siemens and others | 2002 and later | • Collimators in most 80 MLC models, which will reduce irradiation accuracy. • Low power increases the time of treatment, reduces its effectiveness. • Scheduling and delivery systems are giving way to a new generation. |
| New generation simplified linear accelerators | Unique Varian, Halcyon Varian, Tomotherapy HD and others | 2012 and later | • Hardware cost is lower than TrueBeam, making it more affordable. • The energy of only photons is used, there is no electron energy, low power, affects only a certain part of the body, which narrows the possibilities. • It is impossible to affect several metastases at the same time. |
| New generation high power linear accelerators | TrueBeam Varian, Elekta Versa HD and others | 2012 and later | • Maestro system synchronizes all irradiation elements 100 times per second • MLC 120 and Calypso® technologies simulate dose for precise irradiation. • With RapidArc® technology, EclipseTM, higher power - 2400 MU \ min - fast, accurate and safe therapy |

TrueBeam Varian is a new generation of efficient high power linear accelerators, which are installed in leading clinics, including in Georgia.
For 10 years, technologies have gone ahead and the advantage of the new generation over the outdated is obvious - safety and efficiency are much higher. The big difference is in the accuracy of planning systems, tracking targets for therapeutic intervention.
The main question arises - what is the difference between new generation equipment, simplified accelerators and high-power accelerators?
The main difference is the power, which is three times higher than in simplified accelerators. In simplified linear accelerators, only one type of energy is used for therapy - only photons, electrons are not available. These differences do not allow the simplified linear accelerator to treat complex tumor localization, multiple metastases, to conduct short courses of radiation therapy, and do not allow achieving maximum organ preservation, as in the example with breast cancer. All these shortcomings, despite the new design and modern look, do not allow simplified accelerators even of the new generation to compete with Varian's TrueBeam.
Simplified linear accelerators are being made for small clinics that cannot afford Varian's TrueBeam.
Only TrueBeam Varian is able to deliver radiation therapy with the best possible prognosis for the patient.
