Edge® is a unique comprehensive clinical solution in the fight against cancer in children.

More than half of small patients with oncology are now receiving radiation therapy. This is due to the ever-increasing efficiency and accuracy of new technologies. Some of them allow you to achieve the desired result of treatment in a child without surgical intervention.

EDGE - the latest generation radiosurgery

Varian Edge® is a unique system that allows real-time tracking of a target (tumor) in 6 directions in 2-, 3-, 4D modes and monitoring the respiratory movements of a child using SRS stereotactic surgery or stereotactic extracranial radiation therapy SBRT.

The change in the position of the tumor inside the child’s body (during breathing, movement) can be monitored using both internal markers and external non-invasive methods of patient positioning, which is very important in children.

This platform allows you to minimize the risks of unwanted exposure to tissues and organs of the child, which are located next to the tumor with increasing dose rate.

An innovative multi-lobe collimator with a 2.5 mm petal size allows you to achieve extreme dose accuracy. The maximum dose rate of 2400 IU / min - significantly reduces the exposure time.

Intelligent contouring technology - SmartSegementation® streamlines workflow and makes it easier to identify tumor boundaries as well as risk organs.

SmartSegementation® is characterized by unique accuracy and a high dose of radiation, which is delivered to the tumor in just a few minutes and guarantees reliability thanks to a multi-stage visualization system and dynamic control of the procedure. The child is provided with maximum comfort during treatment. This method is highly effective for the treatment of benign and malignant tumors, both primary and metastatic.

High precision EDGE hardware tuning

Advantages of the Edge® linear accelerator system for pediatric oncology applications:

  • multilevel safety mechanism, painless and comfortable cancer treatment;
  • A convenient EclipseTM radiation planning system for each patient individually;
  • radiosurgical accuracy of dose adjustment within fractions of a millimeter;
  • special features for the treatment of lung tumors, synchronization with the patient's breathing;
  • available irradiation modes: standard and high intensity 6X and 10X;
  • maximum dose rate of 2400 IU / min;
  • The innovative high resolution 120-lobe collimator.

An exposure session using RapidArc technology (“Quick Arc”) on the Varian Edge® takes only 10-20 minutes! This is very important because children are very difficult to fix for a longer period of time.

Pediatric Oncology - EDGE

Areas of application in pediatric oncology

  • the brain (benign and malignant tumors, acoustic neuroma, trigeminal neuralgia, jugular glomus tumor, etc.);
  • spine, spinal cord (tumors and metastases);
  • liver (hepatocellular carcinoma);
  • adrenal tumors.

Indications for EDGE radiosurgical treatment of benign and malignant tumors are determined by a consultation of European specialists (pediatric oncologists, pediatric surgeons, radiologists, chemotherapists) according to the results of a patient examination. An individual approach to a sick child and his parents is guaranteed in each case.

Comprehensive support for the unique system is provided by certified instructors, engineers, clinical experts, radiologists with extensive experience in the clinical setting.
