Radiation therapy in a clinic in Georgia

Clinic “Institute of Clinical Medicine named after ac. Todua "in Georgia, offers treatment on a unique equipment - the EDGE Varian System, which allows you to carry out EBRT radiation therapy in the clinic. The Varian EDGE system is an innovative electron-photon beam, which has no alternative in Ukraine yet.
The EDGE® System from Varian (USA) is the newest linear accelerator for adjuvant stereotactic radiation therapy (EBRT) to improve the positive prognosis of treatment.
The EDGE® system from Varian (USA) is effective and safe. The positive outlook is higher than with previous generations of equipment.
Leading clinics use EDGE Varian, a new generation of high power linear accelerators for EBRT (External Beam Radiation Therapy). With the EDGE Varian system, it is possible to act with an electron-photon beam on tumors of any size (even the largest) and of any shape. Due to the higher (2.5 times) radiation power, the session time is only 10-20 minutes. Modern computer systems for focusing and aiming can increase the accuracy of irradiation to a micron.

Radiation therapy on modern equipment

Radiation therapy is one of the most widely used treatments for lung cancer. Radiation therapy can be used alone or in combination with surgery or chemotherapy.
Using the appropriate planning programs, we calculate the optimal radiation dose for each patient. The main goal is to maximize the success of the treatment and to protect the surrounding tissues as best as possible.

If there are extensive metastases to the lymph nodes, we use the so-called combination treatment, that is, simultaneous treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Good treatment results can usually be achieved with this method.

Lung metastases

Metastasis to the lungs consists in the fact that cancer cells from a primary tumor, which is located in another organ, with the flow of blood or lymph spread into the lung tissue, settle there and begin to actively divide, which leads to the formation and growth of metastasis and, accordingly, a worsening of the condition the patient.

Lung metastases can be found in any malignant tumor, but the most common causes may be:

  • Tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (cancer of the esophagus, stomach, colorectal cancer);
  • Mammary cancer;
  • Tumors of the female reproductive system (ovarian cancer, uterine cancer)
  • Kidney and bladder cancer;

Treatment of lung metastases

Treatment of metastases in the lungs is carried out in combination with the treatment of the primary tumor.

Methods of treatment of metastases in the lungs are different and are prescribed depending on the type of underlying disease, its stage, the degree of local spread of the primary tumor and metastases in the lungs, the general condition of the patient, his concomitant pathology and the degree of its correction, as well as depending on the type and effectiveness of the previously performed anticancer treatment, the duration of the relapse-free period and other factors.

Surgical treatment involves the removal of both the primary focus and the removal of metastases in the lungs.
Antitumor drug treatment is based on the systemic effect of drugs on cancer cells in the primary focus, tumor cells circulating in the vessels, as well as regional and distant metastases, including metastases in the lungs. This method includes chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy.
Radiation therapy is especially relevant. External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT) can be used depending on the clinical situation.
